The short version
Zill has no accounts and no analytics. We, the developer, receive no personal data about you. Your places, parking spots, car details and camera scenes stay on your phone. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which may collect some data as described under Advertising below; Zill Pro removes all ads.
Location
Zill uses your location on your device to compute the sun's position, true north and the shade where you park. To show live weather, maps and the buildings around a saved place, the app sends the coordinates of that place, and nothing that identifies you, directly to these services, which answer the request in real time:
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) for the weather forecast, clouds, UV and sunshine.
- OpenStreetMap Overpass servers for building, tree and wall outlines around a saved place.
- Mapzen Terrain Tiles on Amazon Web Services for the height of hills on the horizon (map tiles, not your exact position).
- Apple Maps for maps, place search, place names and satellite images.
You can use Zill without location: pick any place on the map instead.
Camera and motion
The camera (Shadow Lens and AR Sky) and the motion sensors (3D, VR, Sun Meter and Window Sun) are processed on your device only. Nothing is recorded or uploaded. A photo or video is saved to your library only when you tap Save.
What stays on your device
Saved places, parking settings, your car profile, Shadow Lens scenes, the Sun Diary, quiz streaks, badges and settings are stored only in the app on your device. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Notifications
Sun alerts, UV reminders and monthly feature alerts are local notifications scheduled on your phone. No push service is used.
Advertising
The free version of Zill shows ads from Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). People who bought Zill Pro never see ads.
To show and measure ads, Google may collect: your device's advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you allow tracking; an approximate location derived from your IP address; advertising data, such as which ads were shown and how you interacted with them; and diagnostic data, such as crash and performance information. Google uses this data for third-party advertising: showing ads, limiting how often you see them, measuring them and preventing fraud. We don't share your places, parking spots, car details or camera scenes with Google or advertisers. The app also downloads its ad settings from our server; that request doesn't include your account or anything you saved in the app.
Your choices: iOS asks whether Zill may track you. If you choose “Ask App Not to Track”, ads still appear but without your advertising identifier, and you can change this at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app first asks for your consent with Google's consent form, and you can change your choice at any time from “Ad privacy choices” in the app's settings. How Google uses information from apps that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Purchases
The one-time Zill Pro purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive no payment details and no identity information.
Children
Zill is suitable for all ages. We don't collect personal information from anyone; the ads in the free version work as described under Advertising.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
